When it comes to non-fiction business books, to paraphrase Morrissey, we've read everything, we've read everything twice. And while business non-fiction can be mentally inspiring, it is usually spiritually lacking. Letting Go by Oregon wine industry pioneer Susan Sokol Blosser quenches that thirst.
In Letting Go, Sokol Blosser reveals her transition from founder/president of innovative and award-winning Sokol Blosser
Winery to embrace what she calls “la troisieme,” the last third of life.
As she describes her often frustrating and sometimes heart breaking disengagement from the winery, she weaves tales of her formative years. Sokol Blosser's charismatic mother greatly shaped many early decisions Susan made
in her first marriage and later run for state legislature. The compassion she shows for the trials of her mother’s generation and the imperfection of their relationship is a warm and true testament to Susan's character.
Susan eloquently describes her subsequent journey through equal rights for women,
marriage, motherhood, business ownership, candidacy and community building. She talks about the plight of her peers, the idea of traditional retirement having no relevance, and her struggle to “pull the physical and the metaphysical together.”
We here in the Nook are a few decades shy of retirement, but
letting go sounds like an excellent skill skill to master. Many thanks to Susan Sokol Blosser for writing this lovely how-to memoir!
Thanks for reading!
